Summer School 2018

The CDT-CMP is pleased to announce our first Summer School on Experimental Techniques in Condensed Matter, held in Bristol on June 25th – 29th 2018. The school is targeted at first and second year PhD students throughout the UK, with a capacity of up to 20 places, and will be free to attend. The format will include lectures from invited experts on a range of experimental and analysis, and practical workshops on experimental design, analysis and interpretation. Our goal is to introduce postgraduate students from the wider CMP community to a wide range of the techniques commonly used in our field. In particular, we aim to broaden the range of techniques which they can use for their research.

An outline of the programme is given below. Please note this may evolve as speakers and events are confirmed.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Lecture: Electronic Transport Measurements Lecture: Quantum Oscillations Lecture: Magnetic Measurements Lecture: Clean Room Techniques
Lecture: Density Functional Theory Lecture: Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy Lecture: High Field Measurements Lecture: Scanning Probe Measurements

Lecture: Single Crystal Growth Workshop: Density Functional Theory Workshop: Angle Resolved Photoemission and Quantum Oscillations Workshop: Electronics and Circuit Analysis
Lecture: Raman and Optical Spectroscopy
