CDT-CMP Host Frontiers in Condensed Matter Physics Conference 2018

Sven Friedemann, Stephen Clark, and Chris Bell together with Briony Spraggon and Becky Davies from the CDT, organised the annual conference bringing together the UK community in the fields of condensed matter physics.

With more than 150 participants, the 2-day meeting was an excellent opportunity for researchers to present their research and many fruitful discussions emerged. Besides the 30 talks contributed from the community, 4 internationally renowned speakers presented the areas of unconventional superconductivity, graphene and 2D materials, magnetism, and quantum criticality.

A public talk by Dr Chris Hooley on ‘Electronics of the future’ was a clear highlight, explaining to the general audience how future electronics will benefit from quantum mechanics in materials sciences.

The conference was supported by IOP Low Temperature, Magenetism and Superconductivity Groups, and CM-CDT who also assisted in the organisation of the event.
